Keeping information safe
You need to take all reasonable steps to protect information about service users. By ‘reasonable steps’, we mean that you need to take sensible, practical measures to make sure that you keep the information safe.
Professional liaison groups
A professional liaison group (or ‘PLG’) provides advice to the Council or committees on strategic issues. Either the Council, or a committee can decide to set up a PLG, to look at a specific issue and report back.

Education and Training panels review visitors' reports on approval and monitoring of education and training programmes. Panel members are drawn from the Education and Training Committee

Dishonesty – fraud
Case study: An employer raised concerns about an operating department practitioner’s (ODP) conviction of fraud. For this conviction, she was sentenced to 18-months imprisonment and suspended for 24 months.
Standards of conduct, performance and ethics
These standards set out, in general terms, how we expect our registrants to behave. We will use them if someone raises a concern about a registrant’s practice, and for decisions about the character of professionals who apply to our Register.

New threshold for paramedic registration
In 2018, we raised the level of qualification for paramedics’ registration. Previously paramedics needed to achieve ‘Equivalent to Certificate of Higher Education’ to become registered. Currently they need to achieve ’Bachelor degree with honours’.
