The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and seven professional healthcare regulators publish the Whistleblowing Disclosures Report 2018

11 Sep 2018

The HCPC, in collaboration with seven other professional healthcare regulators,* has published the Whistleblowing Disclosures Report 2018. The report gives details of all disclosures made between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.

This follows a new legal requirement that came into force on 1 April 2017 requiring all prescribed bodies to report annually on the number of referred whistleblowing disclosures they receive.

This joint report highlights how the issues raised were handled and what action was taken.

Between the 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018, the HCPC received six whistleblowing disclosures. One disclosure was closed with no action taken, and five were referred to an alternative body.

Katherine Timms, HCPC Head of Policy and Standards, said:

“This joint report demonstrates that there is a consistent approach to how professional regulators are reporting and acting on whistleblowing disclosures.

We welcome this new requirement and believe that by disclosing all whistleblowing disclosures, confidence in how professional regulators handle these will grow”

The joint report is available on the HCPC website

* The eight professional regulators who have jointly published the report are the: General Chiropractic Council, General Dental Council, General Medical Council, General Optical Council, General Osteopathic Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, Health and Care Professions Council and Nursing and Midwifery Council.
