Education annual reports

Every year, we produce a report about our work approving and monitoring programmes that train students in our health and care professions.

Each report covers a time period from the previous September to August of that year.

Supporting an environment for change: Education annual report 2016—17 reflects on another year of progress in which we approved a diverse range of programmes delivered by a broad range of providers.

The report focuses on three key changes that impacted our work: changes to funding and workforce planning, meeting the service user and carer standard, and new professions training in prescribing. It also looks at how we reviewed our work, and how we connected with our stakeholders – working together to shape the standards of education and training and improving our resources for learners.

Education annual report 2016

With a new look for 2016, this annual report contains statistical information, analysis on sector developments, key trends and their causes.

We carried out more approval and monitoring than any previous academic year. Despite this and the impact of sector developments, improvements to our assurance systems and processes actually increased our efficiency over the period.

Education annual report 2015

In 2015, our annual analysis reflected the involvement of lay Visitors in the approval process, changes to the paramedic curriculum, a new standard of education and training and revisions to our standards of proficiency, which were introduced in July 2015.

In 2014 we carried out the second year of our scheduled approval visits to programmes for social workers in England. We also undertook the first year of scheduled approval visits to post-registration programmes for approved mental health professionals (AMHP).

In 2013, we carried out the first year of our scheduled approval visits to programmes for social workers in England following the opening of the Register to this group on 1 August 2012. A new standard of education and training about service user and carer involvement in education and training programmes was also introduced.

In 2012 we carried out our final year of scheduled activities with practitioner psychologist programmes and hearing aid dispenser programmes. We also continued assessing programmes against the revised standards of education and training which became effective on Tuesday 1 September 2009.

In 2011 we carried out the second year of our activities with practitioner psychologist programmes and the first year of our activities with hearing aid dispenser programmes. We also continued to assess programmes against the revised standards of education and training, which became effective from 1 September 2009.
